Incumbents outspent challengers by five to one in Virginia's eight contested U.S. House races in 2006. On average, Virginia's 11 House winners collected nearly $2 million on the road to reelection.
In the U.S. Senate race, incumbent George Allen raised twice as much as his opponent but was the only incumbent Virginia voters did not return to Washington. Webb won by 9,000 votes as Democrats took control of Congress.
