VA Congressional Campaign Spending Tops $15 million
Incumbents outspent challengers by 10 to one in Virginia's 2002 congressional campaigns. Incumbent war chests totaled $14,134,000 for an average of $1,178,000 per candidate. Virginia's eight challengers raised a total of $881,000 for an average of just over $100,000 per candidate. Here's a look at campaign spending on the road to Washington.
