GOP wins two special elections for the House of Delegates to fill seats vacated by Republicans Sam Nixon and Matt Lohr GOP HOLDS TWO HOUSE OF DELEGATES SEATS IN SPECIAL ELECTIONS JUNE 15
Republicans handily won two special elections for the House of Delegates on Tuesday June 15. Both seats are in traditional Republican strongholds and were expected to remain in the Republican column.
House District 26 -- In the Shenandoah Valley, Matt Lohr retires from the House to become Commissioner of Agriculture in the McDonnell Administration.
The winner is Republican Tony Wilt, a lifelong resident of the Shenandoah Valley and a graduate of Broadway High School. He’s worked for 30 years at his family’s business, Superior Concrete, where he currently serves as President and General Manager. He has served as President of the Harrisonburg/Rockingham Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the Advisory Board of United Bank of Harrisonburg.

House District 27 -- In Chesterfield County, Sam Nixon retires to become Virginia’s Chief Information Technology Officer
The winner is Republican Roxann Robinson, a self-employed optometrist and a 25-year resident of Chesterfield County. She is a past president of the Virginia Optometric Association and the Virginia Academy of Optometry. She is Clinical Director of Opening Eyes, a program that provides vision exams to Special Olympics participants, and she was appointed by Governor Gilmore to the Virginia Board of Optometry.
