Virginia Republicans win landslide victories for all three statewide offices and appear to have a net gain of six seats in the House of Delegates.General Election Results November 3, 2009
Winning by huge margins across the state, the GOP reversed a steady string of defeats since 2003 and reclaimed crucial portions of Northern Virginia, including Fairfax and Loudoun counties where Republicans have struggled in recent elections.
It appears that nine incumbent members of the House of Delegates were defeated – eight Democrats and one Republican -- although at least one race is close enough for a possible recount. Combined with 11 open seats, the next General Assembly could have 20 new faces in the House.
